Copper Belt Course on Shingle Roof

The Scope

Decorative copper belt course installation on a shingle roof — accent detail with structural function.

A copper belt is a decorative-but-functional architectural detail — a horizontal band of copper between two roof slopes that catches water at the transition and channels it away from the wall below. Common on shingle-style homes built between 1880 and 1925. The original belt on this home had corroded out. We replaced with 20-ounce bare copper, hand-formed to match the original profile, and re-tied the shingle field above and below.
